On Thursday, February 13, 2025, Moi University School of Tourism, Hospitality & Events Management successfully conducted a dynamic and interactive one-day workshop for Academic Professional and Administrative Staff (APAS). This activity, brought together both teaching and non-teaching personnel from various departments within the School, aimed at empowering participants to contribute meaningfully to the creation of a world-class research university. The workshop is a key component in the institutionalization of the CARTA (Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa) curriculum with the goal of strengthening support for research and excellence. The team of facilitators was led by Prof. Christopher J. Odhiambo and Dr. Fredrick Okaka.
The workshop, which was held at Moi University’s Annex Campus, highlighted the key elements needed to build a world-class research university, emphasizing teamwork, commitment and collaboration across departments. Discussions focused on research governance, leadership, academic citizenship, ethics and the roles of various functionaries in supporting Postgraduate students and fostering quality research. Through the guidance of the facilitators, participants explored the importance of open communication, breaking down silos and cultivating a collaborative culture to create an environment conducive to groundbreaking research. The session emphasized that every member of the university, from academic to administrative staff, plays a vital role in the research ecosystem. Through engaging discussions and activities, the participants gained a deeper understanding of the need to work together to address challenges and implement solutions that promote a thriving research culture. The workshop fostered a shared responsibility for advancing the university's pursuit of academic excellence.
We look forward to continuing these important conversations and collaborations in our shared mission to elevate our institution to world-class standards in research and education.
